Wilderness Overnight This camping, kayaking, jet boating, fishing and sightseeing overnight tour takes you to Carmen Lake in the beautiful and remote Twentymile River Valley. This pristine lake is surrounded by waterfalls, mountains and glaciers; and is a perfect setting for camping, hiking and relaxing by the fire. Alaska Backcountry Access is the only outfitter permitted to camp here to protect the remote characteristics.
We provide Alaskan backcountry cuisine and comfortable camps. Van, jet boat transportation and guide/outfitter services are included as well as kayaks, paddling gear and fishing gear. Bring your personal clothing and a sense of adventure. Highlights include the Twentymile Glacier Lake with massive icebergs and the glaciers face.
Day one v Gear up for your overnight escapade at our World Cup Sports office in the New Girdwood Townsite. We provide quality Mountain Hard Wear tents, warm Kelty sleeping bags, Thermarest sleeping pads and camp chairs, as well as paddle gear and a full camp. A short drive brings us to the launch with our jet boat stowed with gear and ready to go. On the exciting and scenic jet boat ride up river to Carmen Lake we stop to take in the sights, look for animal tracks and view glaciers. Camp is typically near waterfalls with snowfields and streams nearby. Dinner and campfire are a main attraction, enjoy Alaskan salmon, halibut or caribou sausage BBQ (it’s your choice) with rice and veggies and s’mores for desert. Evening activities can include fishing, hiking, kayaking and campfire stories or just taking in the wilderness. Day two v Wake up to spectacular scenery and a hot breakfast with the chance for a paddle or hike. Once camp is packed up, we jet boat to Twentymile Glacier Lake for lunch. The return trip downriver has log jams, boulder gardens, twists, turns and braids.
