Alaska has thousands of glaciers, formed by humid snow storms tracking past the Aleutian Islands and clashing with the coastal Chugach Mountains. The snowfields collect and compress this snow into dense blue glacier ice. The Punch Bowl Glacier snowfield is where Dario Martinez and his energetic husky sled dogs make their summer home. This one-of-a-kind adventure combines helicopter access to Punch Bowl Glacier with sled dog mushing, Alaskan cuisine, guided ski trekking and the glacier camp. This summer training home for 40+ energetic huskies, dog handlers and sled dog mushers lets you experience their unique lifestyle. We take a spectacular helicopter flight with Alpine Air Alaska to access glacier snow fields for hiking, ski trekking or snowshoeing. The rolling glacial terrain offers stunning views, occasional mountain goat sightings and a unique summer activity. My most memorable moment was when I was on top of the glacier preparing to go dog mushing. I realized the musher lived up on a glacier all summer, with no electricity or running water (about as far away from Silicon Valley as I think I could get), and he had fun and really enjoyed what he did. It was such a beautiful view, and learning about the dogs and how he works with them was educational and fun. The kids enjoyed meeting the dogs and getting a chance to ride on the sled. Thanks! Sarah
